About The Position

The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing automated manufacturing systems used in automotive seat manufacturing. This role ensures equipment reliability, improves cycle times, enhances safety, and supports launch and production activities through effective controls engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic or similar Engineering degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent.
  • Trades Certification with significant work experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Controls Technologist or related IT related field.
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, robotics, vision systems, and other automation equipment.
  • Understand and apply basic ladder logic principles, control for I/O, ability to understand PLC commands and HMI usage.
  • Working knowledge of developing and maintaining robotic equipment (i.e., Fanuc, Universal Robots etc.).
  • Working knowledge of deploying and maintaining electronic safety systems (i.e., Safety PLC’s Area Scanners, Light curtains etc.).
  • Working knowledge of deploying and maintaining error proofing devices such as Keyence, Cognex, SICK visions systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (DeviceNet, EthernetIP, IO-Link, Point IO).
  • Demonstrated use of electrical devices (i.e. proximity switches, load cells, LVDT’s, signal conditioners, etc.).
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, schematic design specification.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, development and installation of new PLC based control systems.
  • Onsite commissioning of electrical and function validation equipment with a focus on I/O checkout, system testing and start-up support.
  • Maintain and modify Human Machine Interface (HMI) displays and graphics via multiple computer systems (e.g., Citec, FactoryTalk, RS Studio 5000).
  • Monitor the quality of the hardware and software interface/integration and suggest changes to improve reliability.
  • In case of equipment performance issues; analyze and troubleshoot the cause(s) of the issue and develop and execute the appropriate corrective action(s).
  • Produce and update documents including work/user instructions, functional specifications, detailed design specifications, electrical and pneumatic schematics, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with IT department to optimize communications using a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software i.e., cimplicity.
