About the position

The Controller at Embassy Suites San Diego La Jolla is responsible for supervising and directing the financial activities of the hotel, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves safeguarding the hotel's assets, preparing financial reports, and serving as a financial advisor to hotel management and ownership. The Controller also monitors and approves all financial transactions, assists department heads with financial data interpretation, and prepares annual plans, projections, and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the financial activities of the hotel.
• Safeguard the assets of the hotel.
• Prepare all financial reports in accordance with GAAP.
• Serve as a financial advisor to hotel management and ownership.
• Monitor and approve all sales, purchases, salaries, and expenses of the hotel.
• Assist and counsel department heads in interpreting financial data.
• Recommend courses of action to maximize profitability.
• Prepare the annual plan, projections, and budgets throughout the year.
• Advise hotel management, corporate office, and owners.
• Interview, train, supervise, counsel, schedule, and evaluate staff.

Requirements

• Experience in financial management within the hospitality industry.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven leadership and team management abilities.
