About the position

The Controller at The Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis) is a senior leadership role responsible for managing the organization's financial health. This position involves overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the organization's mission of social justice and youth development. The Controller will work closely with program directors and department heads to manage budgets, generate financial reports, and coordinate audits, while also mentoring a team of financial staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and banking.
  • Manage budgeting processes in collaboration with program directors and department heads.
  • Maintain strategies and policies regarding cash management, liquidity, and capitalization.
  • Lead the management of BroSis insurance policies and compliance activities.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure data integrity.
  • Generate regular financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and nonprofit reporting requirements.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to build out multi-year budgets.
  • Conduct year-end close and quarterly reviews of actuals versus budgets.
  • Coordinate external audits and address any findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and state and federal regulations.
  • Proven experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a mission-focused environment and manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project management and systems implementation experience preferred.
