About the position

The Controller is responsible for working in conjunction with the facility Chief Financial Officer to direct and coordinate the financial activities of the Hospital including accounting, reporting, budgeting, internal control functions and other duties as needed. The position is incentive eligible and offers an opportunity to be part of an organization devoted to giving back to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the financial activities of the hospital, maintaining the facility general ledger & overseeing the month-end close process.
  • Coordinate the preparation of hospital statistical reports, budgets, and variance analyses.
  • Review all monthly journal entries, financial & statistical analyses, & other reports as needed to ensure hospital operations are accurately reflected & in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure that monthly reconciliations are completed for all facility balance sheet accounts & that adequate support is obtained for all balances.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of facility internal controls to ensure compliance with both organizational policies & Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Ensure that all Medicare Cost Report supporting workpapers are prepared monthly & assist in the completion of the annual cost report.
  • Oversee the development & tracking of the annual facility operating & capital budgets.
  • Assist hospital administrative team & departmental managers with projects or questions as needed.
  • Maintain facility accounts payable system, submitting vendor invoices & facility check requests for payment, accurately coding expenses to the proper general ledger account, & researching payment discrepancies as necessary.
  • Ensure hospital vendor & physician contracts are properly maintained & followed.
  • Review all tax workpapers to ensure that information needed for all facility taxes, including sales, provider, income, & property taxes, is completed accurately.
  • Supervise & direct all Accounting Staff to ensure departmental tasks are performed efficiently & effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • 5 years of accounting experience required.
  • 2-3 years of prior hospital accounting & supervisory experience preferred.
