About the position
The Controller will lead the accounting, tax, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A) functions for a rapidly growing Conversations-as-a-Service software company. This role involves overseeing the financial cycle, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and managing a small team to deliver accurate financial statements and forecasts. The Controller will report directly to the CFO and play a critical role in the financial health of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the monthly financial cycle, including invoicing, AR/AP, financial package preparation, and employee expense reports
- Run the financial forecasting and budgeting process, collaborating with department leaders to analyze financial results and ROI from investments
- Oversee payroll process, including semi-monthly payroll runs and state registrations and filings using Rippling HRIS system
- Manage tax reporting in collaboration with external CPA firm to ensure timely and accurate submissions
- Lead the annual financial audit process with external auditors to ensure compliance and timely issuance
- Enhance existing financial analyses to help management understand financial trends and anomalies
- Effectively manage the Senior Accountant's day-to-day activities
Requirements
- 8-12 years of relevant accounting, tax, and finance experience
- Experience in the software industry, preferably within the accounting/finance department of a software company
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and ability to research relevant guidance
- Strong financial modeling skills including multi-scenario forecasts and sensitivity analyses
- Experience with tax filings and registrations, specifically income tax and payroll taxes
- CPA license strongly preferred
- Experience with NetSuite financial ERP system
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience managing staff
- Ability to work well independently and manage upwards as needed
