About the position

The Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of a dynamic nonprofit organization. This position requires a balance of hands-on management and strategic oversight, working closely with the board and leadership team to ensure financial integrity and operational efficiency. The Controller will manage a small team and is expected to contribute to the organization's financial strategy while maintaining day-to-day accounting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of operational accounting including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), general ledger, and payroll.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy in financial records.
  • Recognize revenue in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare financial reports and provide analysis for the board and leadership team.
  • Take ownership of the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
  • Manage the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a management role.
  • Experience within the nonprofit sector is preferred.
  • MBA and/or CPA is preferred.
