About the position
The Controller for a dynamic nonprofit organization will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This position requires a blend of hands-on accounting skills and strategic oversight, working closely with the board and leadership team. The Controller will manage a small team and ensure the integrity of financial reporting and compliance, while also contributing to the organization's mission and goals.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of operational accounting including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), general ledger, and payroll.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy in financial records.
- Recognize revenue in accordance with accounting standards.
- Prepare financial reports and provide analysis for the board and leadership team.
- Ownership of the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Implement and manage internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
- Manage the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a management role.
- Experience within the nonprofit sector is preferred.
- MBA and/or CPA certification is preferred.
