About the position

The Control Algorithm Engineer position at Trane Technologies is an entry-level role focused on developing innovative control strategies and algorithms for HVAC equipment. The role emphasizes collaboration with product management and application engineering to meet product requirements while contributing to sustainability efforts. The engineer will engage in dynamic controls testing, hardware in loop testing, and model-driven development methods, all aimed at minimizing environmental impact and enhancing energy efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product management and application engineering to understand product requirements
  • Develop control strategies and algorithms to meet or exceed product requirements
  • Develop technical specifications for software development and verification
  • Utilize effective communication techniques to help team members understand and implement the design strategy
  • Lead dynamic controls testing including test planning, lab support, and data analysis
  • Develop and execute hardware in loop testing for real-time data analysis
  • Advance model driven development methods

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 0-3 years of control theory experience
  • Classical control knowledge required (PID control, linear control, digital filtering)
  • System modeling expertise required (Proficiency with Matlab Simulink, and optionally Stateflow)
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics
  • Computer skills in Java, C++, C with ability to learn new programming languages
  • Ability to function in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally
