About the position

The Contract Officer, Sr. position within the Office of Sponsored Projects at Intermountain Health is crucial for managing the administrative and technical functions associated with clinical trials, specifically for the Oncology Phase 1 Clinic. This role involves drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and resolving disputes related to sponsored agreements, acting as a senior liaison between internal stakeholders and external sponsors, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead as a subject matter expert for grant and/or contract management, providing expert advice on research proposals, awards, contracts, and administrative processes.
  • Review and approve proposals for completeness, ensuring adherence to required institutional documentation and deadlines.
  • Evaluate complex proposals, awards, and agreements for compliance with federal and state laws, institutional policies, and agency procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state requirements governing externally funded sponsored projects.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and guidance related to grants and contracts management.
  • Request additional and supplemental approvals from funding sponsors when required by a grant or contract.
  • Negotiate complex terms and conditions with external entities.

Requirements

  • Extensive professional experience within research administration and grants management.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
  • Solid judgment and capacity to exercise discretion to resolve ambiguity and promote effective solutions.
  • Strong commitment to providing professional, timely, efficient, and courteous service to the university research community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Clinical trial agreement experience.
  • Phase I oncology clinical trials experience.
  • Experience in contract administration and negotiation.
