We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer / ETL Developer to join the Digital Business Automation team. This is a Software Engineering III position at the Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs. The candidate will be responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and optimizing the data systems and pipelines to support various data-driven initiatives and reporting needs across Digital Business Automation. The candidate will be working with multiple database systems: DB2 / SQL Server, Hadoop, Teradata, Snowflake, etc. The ideal candidate must love building robust and resilient data systems and enjoy the precise nature of technology in finance. This role demands continuous learning in data, technology, banking/finance, generative AI, personal excellence, and resourcefulness.

Requirements

  • 6+ years Database Development (SQL/PLSQL) experience in a distributed environment (DB2, SQL Server, Sybase).
  • 6+ years hands-on experience working with Big Data technologies, e.g. Apache Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce), Hive / Hive QL, Spark.
  • 6+ years experience working with data lakes and data warehouses.
  • Proficiency in Database fundamentals: DBMS, relational DBs, NoSQL, normalization, etc.
  • Proficiency in writing database queries, stored procedures, functions, etc.
  • Proficiency in Kafka, Apache Spark, PySpark and understanding data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in ETL tools e.g. Informatica PowerCenter.
  • Proficiency in Teradata Tools and Utilities, e.g. FastLoad, MultiLoad.
  • Proficient in Unix shell scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with DB Modeling skills.
  • Hands-on experience with object-oriented programming language, e.g. Java, Python.
  • Practical experience working in Agile development methodologies.
  • Problem solver.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong computer science fundamentals, scalable and resilient system design.
  • Proficiency in Git and development workflows.
  • Basic DevOps knowledge (Liquibase, Runway etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with Database performance tuning including SQL tuning.
  • Hands-on experience in Azure or other cloud platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with Tableau or other BI tools for data visualization.
  • Expertise in running development in Agile mode.
  • Strong understanding of requirements for large enterprise applications such as security, entitlements, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Strong Data Engineer / ETL Developer who will design, build, and maintain scalable data and reporting solutions for Digital Business Automation.
  • Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data.
  • Automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, and design robust data pipelines.
  • Solve complex data engineering problems, lead system design and development activities.
  • Understand business processes, the bigger picture and core ideas behind the developed software.
  • Define engineering guidelines and quality control pipeline; perform code reviews.
  • Advocate and advance toward cutting edge data engineering and development practices, including application of Generative AI.
  • Hands-on experience working with Agile development methodologies and collaborating with business and technology teams located globally.
  • Actively contribute and participate in refinement and planning discussions, daily stand-ups, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Work with various teams and stakeholders across geography and time zone.
