About the position

The Field Engineer position at TxDOT's Houston District Construction Office involves overseeing construction projects within a significant portfolio valued at nearly $6 billion. The role requires daily interaction with TxDOT Area Offices to monitor project progress, implement audit management plans, and manage various engineering tasks related to construction and traffic control. This position emphasizes independent work and necessitates extensive knowledge of heavy highway construction and traffic control.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction projects and monitor progress in collaboration with TxDOT Area Offices.
  • Implement audit management plans and issue TCEQ permits.
  • Conduct SWPPP oversight and review traffic control plans.
  • Assist in resolving contractor claims and disputes.
  • Drive to project locations for on-site engineering reviews and analyses.
  • Develop and review engineering-related documents and reports.
  • Monitor contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Make presentations and represent TxDOT at various forums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
  • 5 years of engineering or transportation engineering experience for Transportation Engineer II; 6 years for Transportation Engineer III.
  • Valid driver's license required for driving a state vehicle.
  • Professional Engineer license required or must obtain within six months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive experience in Heavy Highway Construction preferred.
