About the position

The Community Services Advocate at Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc. serves as a vital link between low-income residents and the services offered at the Neighborhood Service Center. This role involves providing information, referrals, and assistance to clients in need of various community services, including energy assistance, food distribution, and job placement. The advocate is responsible for maintaining client records, ensuring documentation is accurate, and supporting the overall operations of the service center.

Responsibilities

  • Learn all aspects of the services offered at the Neighborhood Service Center.
  • Greet clients and visitors to the NSC.
  • Assess clients' needs and refer or assist accordingly.
  • Receive client applications and ensure all documentation is correct according to guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date client records as required.
  • Assist with all services at the NSC as needed.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of all NSC program applications and forms.
  • Maintain inventory records and supplier information for Necessity Closet items and restock as needed.
  • Help enter client data into THO database for LIHEAP/LIHWAP as time allows.
  • Assist NSC Coordinator with all functions at the NSC.
  • Work with LIHEAP/LIHWAP staff to help maintain and service the four LIHEAP intake months.
  • Ensure all supplies needed for intake months are at hand.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and Agency information.
  • Assist LIHEAP Administrative staff in all LIHEAP duties as they may arise.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1 Year experience in customer service and detailed clerical work, preferably in a social work setting.
  • Experience in detailed record keeping and highly organized.
  • Ability to compile and maintain client records and handle confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate well with low-income clients, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and data entry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Competency with operation of multi-function office equipment.
