About the position

The City of Green Bay is accepting applications for Community Service Officers. Community Service Officers provide various public services to City residents in cooperation with the Park Department, Department of Community and Economic Development (Neighborhood and Inspection Divisions) and Police Department. Successful candidates will possess conflict resolution skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to multi-task. Work Schedule: Minimum of 15 hours/week; maximum of 30 hours/week. Varied shifts between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Works cooperatively with the Parks Department, Planning Department and Police Department to provide neighborhood based public services such as directing residents to proper resources, educating individuals/groups on various issues/ordinances, and providing other community outreach support to the residents as required.
  • Routinely walks through near downtown neighborhoods and City parks to identify and address potential problems.
  • Reports issues or incidents to the appropriate City personnel, assists with animal welfare and pet licensing issues, and assists with resolving other related problems.
  • Responds to routine, lower-priority police calls for service, such as criminal damage to property, thefts, abandoned vehicles, parking complaints, and lost and found.
  • Assists Police Officers as needed on traffic crashes, with traffic direction, and with any other type of call as deemed necessary.
  • Documents and completes required case reports on dispatched calls.
  • Collaborates with neighborhood resources including associations & resource centers, as well as appropriate City departments to achieve connection between the City of Green Bay and the community.
  • Researches information; analyzes data and compiles and prepares various reports and other related documents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently enrolled in college or technical college with a minimum of 9 credits and pursuing a degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Urban Studies, Criminal Justice, Police Science, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language such as Hmong or Spanish desired.
  • Must have acceptable personal and professional history as determined by successfully completing a background investigation.
  • Good knowledge of computers including word processing software skills.
  • Good skill in problem solving, multi-tasking and group dynamics.

  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to learn and apply applicable City ordinances and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
