About the position

The Community Health Education Specialist at Gateway Community and Technical College is responsible for coordinating clinical rotations for health professions students and developing health education programs for the community. This role involves collaboration with local practitioners, maintaining communication with various stakeholders, and implementing effective health education strategies. The position requires strong organizational skills and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange, schedule, credential, and coordinate clinical rotations for health professions students.
  • Develop and coordinate all aspects of the Community Health Workers (CHWs) training program.
  • Plan and expand effective health education strategies, interventions, and programs for the community.
  • Maintain close communication with AHEC Clinical Coordinators and local practitioners.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for health care preceptors and prospective employers.
  • Develop a comprehensive recruiting communication strategy and establish a professional network.
  • Obtain credentialing materials from students and orient them to rotation sites.
  • Identify and enlist new clinical sites and practitioners for teaching.
  • Plan and coordinate logistics with CHWs and implement health education classes.
  • Assess health needs and conduct community surveys and evaluations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of health education programs and materials.
  • Assist in the recruitment and development of health occupations within the college.
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of the CHW program training.
  • Attend AHEC-related and CHWs regional and state-wide meetings.
  • Provide presentations and workshops to increase student interest in healthcare professions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Health Education, or equivalent.
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional communication abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Word).
