About the position

The Community Banker at Gray Morris Bank is responsible for processing and servicing consumer loans while acting as a liaison between customers and various bank departments. This role involves educating clients about loan products, cross-selling banking services, and representing the bank in community events to enhance its image and develop new lending business.

Responsibilities

  • Accept and process consumer loans.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and other areas of the bank.
  • Cross-sell deposit, mortgage, and commercial products.
  • Provide back support to Banking Center Customer Service Associates for deposit-related activities.
  • Educate prospective clients about the bank's underwriting guidelines and applicable government regulations.
  • Explain complex approvals or denials to prospective loan clients.
  • Study new regulations affecting the bank's lending policies and ensure compliance with management.
  • Make small business loans within Loan Officer's qualifications.
  • Work with prospective loan clients to obtain lending business for the bank.
  • Cross-sell non-loan related products and services.
  • Represent the bank at community functions to enhance its image and develop new lending business.
  • Screen consumer and small business loan requests based on bank policies.
  • Interview prospective loan clients to gather information about their loan needs and financial condition.
  • Obtain necessary information regarding prospective loan clients.
  • Assist customers with completion of consumer loan applications.
  • Process consumer loan applications within the bank's credit decision system.
  • Analyze current financial positions of consumer customers to assess risk.
  • Confirm recommended approvals, declines, or forward loan requests for higher-level decisions.
  • Establish terms and conditions of approved loans and review them with customers.
  • Prepare and review all consumer loan documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Close consumer loans in accordance with bank policy.
  • Maintain customer account information on the computer system.
  • Follow current loans to ensure compliance with terms and coordinate with collections.
  • Participate in new business development activities.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and cross-sell services to customers.
  • Answer questions about products and services and resolve problems within authority.
  • Refer problems beyond authority to supervisors with recommendations.
  • Follow guidelines for grading loans and manage technical exceptions.
  • Monitor loan proceeds and obtain inspections of collateral associated with loans.
  • Perform duties as defined in the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or finance or equivalent experience in a financial setting.
  • Two to five years of experience in a bank or lending setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and good judgment.
  • Ability to exercise personal and professional responsibility and work under minimum supervision.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to positively persuade customers.
  • Adaptive to change and proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • General knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program preferred.
