About the position

The Communications Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing, and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment. This role involves overseeing work orders, ensuring high-quality installations, performing quality inspections, and monitoring task completion while adhering to safety and compliance standards. The technician must possess a proficient understanding of various telecommunication systems and lead project teams in the installation and maintenance of these systems, particularly in complex environments such as healthcare and government facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams on telecommunications installation and maintenance projects.
  • Oversee junior employees in the installation, termination, and testing of structured and fiber optic cabling.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and document completion.
  • Perform inspections, evaluations, and inventory tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Read and understand plans, specifications, and blueprints for each project phase.
  • Mentor junior apprentices and technicians to enhance their technical knowledge.
  • Terminate various manufacturers' copper termination blocks and ensure quality testing.
  • Reference BICSI Guidelines for installation and termination procedures.
  • Conduct termination of cable on patch panels and jacks at work area outlets.
  • Facilitate cable installation from TRs to WAOs while adhering to construction drawings.
  • Run lists to ensure proper cable installation and arrangement at the TR.
  • Perform Quality Assurance checks on team performance to ensure compliance and safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6+ years of telecommunications experience in OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, DAS, Fiber Optic, and Structured Cabling.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in complex markets including Federal & Government Facilities, Healthcare, and Mission Critical Facilities.
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance if required.
