About the position

The Communications Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing, and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders. This role includes assigning tasks, ensuring high-quality installations, and performing quality inspections. The technician will monitor task completion, compliance issues, and safety in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. A proficient understanding of telecommunication systems, including OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Fiber Optic, and Structured Cabling, is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams on small to moderately complex telecommunications installation and maintenance projects.
  • Oversee and lead junior employees in the installation, termination, and testing of structured and fiber optic cabling in new-build commercial construction industries.
  • Maintain a daily on-site presence and pull cable as necessary without assistance.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and document completion.
  • Perform inspections, evaluations, and inventory tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Read and understand plans, specifications, and blueprints throughout each project phase.
  • Mentor junior apprentices and technicians on-site to ensure continuous growth and technical knowledge.
  • Terminate various manufacturers of copper termination blocks and understand the impact of improper installation on quality testing.
  • Utilize BICSI Guidelines for proper installation and termination procedures.
  • Lead and conduct the termination of cable on Patch Panels and Jacks at Work Area Outlet.
  • Facilitate and lead a team to install cable from TRs to WAOs while adhering to construction drawings.
  • Run lists to ensure proper cable installation and arrangement at the TR for ease of dressing and termination.
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) checks on team performance to ensure compliance and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in telecommunications installation and oversight of OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, DAS, Fiber Optic, and Structured Cabling.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in complex markets including Federal & Government Facilities, Healthcare/Hospitals, Commercial Buildings, and Mission Critical Facilities.
  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance if required for the project.
