About the position

The Communications Director for Scotts Bluff County is responsible for the operation of the Communication Center, focusing on planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating emergency communication procedures. This role ensures efficient and accurate dispatching of emergency services, including police, fire, sheriff, and emergency medical services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of FCC rules, regulations and licensing requirements.
  • Enhanced 9-1-1 systems including Enhanced wireless 9-1-1, knowledge of National Crime Information Center.
  • Nebraska Law Enforcement Teletype system (or equivalent) and National Law Enforcement Teletype system policies.
  • Knowledge of the services provided by local police and fire departments, sheriffs department and rural fire districts.
  • Knowledge of County roads, City streets and principle building locations in Scotts Bluff County.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public safety agencies, Local and State governmental officials and the general public.
  • Considerable experience in a responsible administrative or managerial capacity involving the delivery of public safety communication services, Next Generation 9-1-1 phone systems, Computer Aided Dispatch, including supervisory experience within the public safety telecommunications field or in a public safety enforcement position or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the desirable knowledges, abilities and skills.
  • Working knowledge of Communications products, APCO-EMD, along with working knowledge of APCO-EMD, QA and QI procedures.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public or business administration or related field.
  • Considerable experience in a responsible administrative or managerial capacity involving the delivery of public safety communications services including supervisory experience within the public safety telecommunications field or in a public safety enforcement position.
