About the position

The Commercial Tire Technician is responsible for repairing and replacing tires on commercial vehicles at the Colony Tire location, customer locations, and during service calls on the side of highways. This role requires adherence to established procedures for tire inspection, repair, and documentation of work performed, ensuring safety and efficiency in all tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and replace tires on commercial vehicles at various locations.
  • Inspect tires and wheels before and after service according to established procedures.
  • Determine repairable tire conditions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Review work orders and discuss tasks with supervisors.
  • Document work performed accurately in compliance with company policy.
  • Unbolt and re-bolt wheels using hand and power tools.
  • Mount and dismount tires on various types of rims.
  • Match mating of dual assemblies and inflate tires correctly.
  • Balance wheels using balancing machines and apply required counterweights.
  • Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects from tires.
  • Safely pull vehicles in and out of the shop.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license for the type of vehicle required for the position.
  • Ability to meet commercial driver qualification requirements.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to control operations of equipment or systems effectively.
  • Active listening skills to understand and respond to others appropriately.
  • Ability to monitor operations and ensure machines are working properly.
  • Strong time management skills to manage one's own time effectively.
  • Physical flexibility and strength to perform job duties, including lifting and moving heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of commonly used tools, including power tools and hand tools.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and mechanized equipment safely.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pneumatic wrenches and machine tools such as lathes and grinding machines.
  • Familiarity with safety practices in a mechanical work environment.
