About The Position

The Commercial Risk Advisor is responsible for developing and maintaining an accurate, collated view of risk in RS&M’s (Refining Supply & Midstream) US midstream businesses, which are primarily some form of joint venture (JV). This is delivered through championing the NOJV (Non-Operated Joint Venture) risk management procedure and ensuring effective NOJV risk management for 14 US joint ventures. Provide exposure risk support in management of bp’s interest in the US JVs, including commercial project opportunities, as well as providing support for SCCC (Strategic & Commercial or Compliance & Control) risk assessments for bp-operated US midstream JVs.

Requirements

  • University degree (Business or Engineering Preferred)
  • Senior experience in similar job.
  • Exposure to bp’s risk assessment processes
  • Understanding of the midstream business, including midstream’s value to crude supply, product supply, sales & marketing and refining strongly desired.
  • Ability to develop relationships, including influencing across many levels of the organization
  • Ability to use multiple inputs to reach a decision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels and across multiple businesses and geographies
  • Ability to lead a team when the team members do not have a direct reporting relationship
  • Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and under time pressure

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Risk Process Owner (RPO) for the US RS&M JVs, ensuring NOJV risk management is delivered in accordance with bp’s NOJV Solutions, NOJV Risk Management Procedure
  • Facilitate the NOJV risk assessments, including delivering the annual risk workshop and mid-year validation
  • Engage JV asset managers, functional assurers, risk practitioners and others to conduct risk workshops to assess and quantify inherent and exposure risks, define barriers, and develop Exposure Risk Management Plans
  • Monitor NOJV risks and Exposure Management Plan (EMP) actions for timely delivery, notification of material changes, and trigger updates with relevant regional or functional risk coordinators
  • Ensure evaluation of bp’s JV participation strategy (ie Posture) in each JV, and alignment of the EMP to the strategy
  • Own and maintain NOJV Database entries, capturing identified risks, updating over time, and supporting annual review requirements
  • Ensure proper notifications, in conformance with the NOJV incident reporting, HSE recording & learning procedure, within bp when JV incidents occur
  • Aid conformance to the NOJV Director & Asset Manager appointment process, ensuring barriers to avoid conflict of interest and MoC onboarding of NOJV roles
  • Manage the risk notification endorsement process for emerging JV risks based on their placement on the 8x8 matrix
  • Support commercial project development, ensuring bp exposure risks are appropriately considered
  • Participate with bp’s T&P (Terminals & Pipelines) organization in the assessment of potential SCCC risks across T&Ps operations
  • Work with RS&M European midstream RPOs for consistency and best practice sharing
  • Serve as the main contact point between the Commercial midstream logistics team and the NOJV Solutions group
