As an aspiring commercial lender, you’ll build a strong foundation in commercial banking through hands-on learning, mentorship, and collaboration with experienced team members. This role combines technical banking development with relationship building and community engagement. As you learn commercial lending, credit, sales, and banking operations, you will also begin developing your professional network through civic involvement, business development activities, and relationship building within the communities we serve. Day in the Life – Your focus in this role will be twofold: developing commercial banking knowledge while building relationships within the market. You will gain exposure to retail banking, credit, sales and delivery, loan operations, and compliance while learning how these areas support our clients and overall organization. At the same time, you will begin establishing relationships with local businesses, Centers of Influence (COIs), community organizations, and industry groups through networking opportunities, civic involvement, and community engagement activities. Working alongside your leader and mentors, you will develop skills in commercial lending, customer relationship management, prospecting, and portfolio management while contributing to German American Bank’s relationship-focused and community-centered culture. As your experience grows, you will begin managing customer relationships and assisting with portfolio responsibilities, including financial analysis, collateral inspections, and identifying solutions that support customer needs and long-term relationship growth.
