About the position

The Utah County Assessor's office is responsible for classifying all property in the county; in cooperation with the Recorder's office, associate ownership with the property; establishing a taxable value for all property subject to property taxation; and compiling this information into reports that are utilized by the Auditor's office to calculate tax rates and the Treasurer's office for collections. Under general guidance and direction of the Commercial Appraiser Supervisor and in accordance with State Code 59-2-701, performs commercial appraisal work. Participates in all aspects of establishing fair market values for county assessment roll.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commercial appraisal work under general guidance.
  • Establish fair market values for county assessment roll.
  • Classify all property in the county.
  • Associate ownership with the property in cooperation with the Recorder's office.
  • Establish taxable value for all property subject to property taxation.
  • Compile information into reports for the Auditor's office and Treasurer's office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five (5) years of work experience as a real property appraiser or in a related field such as real estate or building construction for Commercial Appraiser.
  • Two (2) years of related experience for Ad Valorem Commercial Appraiser II.
  • Valid driver's license and obtain a valid State of Utah driver's license within sixty (60) days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Designation as a Certified General Appraiser with the Utah State Department of Commerce.
  • General Ad Valorem Appraiser designation with the Utah State Tax Commission within twenty-four (24) months in position for Commercial Appraiser.
  • Licensed as a Certified Residential or General Appraiser with the Utah State Department of Commerce for Ad Valorem Commercial Appraiser II.
  • Designation of a State of Utah Ad Valorem General Real Property Appraiser for Ad Valorem Commercial Appraiser II.
  • Ability to obtain an appraiser trainee designation with the Utah Division of Real Estate within one (1) year of employment for Ad Valorem Commercial Appraiser I.
