About the position

The department of kinesiology is seeking an engaging, innovative, non-tenure track college (clinical) assistant professor to join the Athletic Training faculty. This is a 9-month appointment. We are searching for a candidate who has a desire to contribute to enhanced delivery of program content, mentor graduate students both in academic and clinical education/patient-care settings, and support the delivery of curriculum in the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program. Primary responsibilities of this position include teaching (potentially including separately contracted, summer teaching which is not included in base salary), and service to the department of kinesiology, the university and MSAT program. The selected candidate will teach professional athletic training education courses, and the focus in one or more of the following areas: prevention/acute care of injury and illness, assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions, immediate and emergency care, therapeutic interventions, or clinical education/experience. Additionally, the successful candidate will undertake some clinical responsibilities along with existing AT faculty to provide services to various university partners (dancers, rodeo, rugby, ROTC, etc) as part of clinical education experiences for MSAT students. This position will primarily advise and mentor graduate students in the MSAT program and serve on department, college, and university committees.

Responsibilities

  • Teach professional athletic training education courses.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited university in Athletic Training, Psychology of Sport, Exercise & Physical Activity, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, or a related Kinesiology or Education discipline.
  • ATC credential granted by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, Inc.
  • Ability to be licensed as an athletic trainer in the state of New Mexico.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice/experience in the field of athletic training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong record of teaching effectiveness and assessment of diverse learners.
  • Past teaching experience in formal settings (e.g., traditional classroom settings) and informal settings such as precepting within athletic training clinical education.
  • 5+ years of clinical practice/experience in the field of athletic training.
  • Experience supervising athletic training students as a formal preceptor within a CAATE accredited program.
