About the position

The College Archivist at Central Piedmont Community College is responsible for the management, administration, and development of the college's archives. This role involves identifying, collecting, processing, and digitizing materials that reflect the history and mission of the college within the Charlotte Metropolitan Region. The archivist will engage in outreach, provide research services, and collaborate with various college units to promote the archives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the Central Piedmont Community College archives.
  • Appraise, organize, and process archival collections.
  • Preserve and digitize archival materials such as photos, videos, and audio recordings.
  • Compile finding aids, reference guides, articles, statistics, and reports.
  • Use management systems like ArchivesSpace and ContentDM to provide access to archival records.
  • Catalog archival collections according to archival standards.
  • Provide archival reference and research services.
  • Engage in long- and short-range planning for the archives.
  • Market and promote the college archives to the community.
  • Train and oversee staff, students, and volunteers in archives projects.
  • Maintain college records according to retention guidelines.
  • Explain policies and procedures to various stakeholders.
  • Provide outreach and instructional research to the college community.
  • Collaborate on archives-related projects with other college units.
  • Develop displays that highlight archival materials.

Requirements

  • Master of Information Studies (MIS) or Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution with five years of professional experience as an archivist, or a Master's degree in History/Public History with coursework in archival administration and five years of professional experience as an archivist.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EAD, DACS, digitization processes, and digital preservation standards.
  • Experience in developing and administering policies in an archives or special collections unit.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Attention to detail.
  • General office experience with knowledge of office equipment.
  • Software knowledge, especially MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, Google Drive.
  • Experience with digital archives systems or databases.
