About the position

As a Coffee Shop Barista at Hy-Vee, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, handling food safely, and maintaining a clean work area. This role emphasizes the importance of customer interactions and teamwork to enhance the shopping experience while ensuring a positive company image.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Makes note of and passes along customer suggestions or requests to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking customer orders.
• Takes customer orders at the counter and works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Handles food in a safe manner and ensures the work area is always clean and neat.
• Reviews the status and appearance of the food for freshness and ensures that an adequate food supply is ready and on hand.
• Prepares and replenishes product as necessary and checks in product, putting it away, and reviewing invoices.
• Runs the department registers, receives payment, and makes change as applicable.
• Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time, washes dishes as necessary, orders product and supplies, prices products for customers, and assists in other areas of the store as needed.

Requirements

• Less than high school education or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to deal with a few concrete variables and perform simple addition and subtraction.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a customer service role.
• Knowledge of food safety practices.
