About The Position

This position is responsible for reviewing medical record documentation to identify all services provided within the hospital and by physicians. The coder will assign appropriate CPT and ICD-9/10 diagnosis and procedure codes to accurately support the need for each service. This role also involves analyzing and resolving claim rejections and denials related to coding issues, and assisting with billing and documentation training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Coding Certification or successfully completed Coding & Medical Terminology Classes.
  • Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/10 and modifier use.
  • Familiarity of personal computer operations.
  • Basic knowledge of word processing

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and/or experience in health care setting are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review medical record documentation to identify all services provided within the hospital and by physicians.
  • Assigns appropriate CPT and ICD-9/10 diagnosis and procedure codes to accurately support the need for each service.
  • Reviews record for services provided, but not adequately documented in the medical record.
  • Advises supervisor, department and/or physician of deficiencies to support the charge capture of all billing services.
  • Analyzes and resolves claim rejects and denials from the billing office related to coding issues.
  • Assists with billing and documentation training in daily interactions with departments and physicians and other routine training sessions.
  • Identifies trends/problems in medical documentation and recommends possible solutions.
  • Will be required to use hands, arms, sit long periods, bend, stoop, climb, and move your whole body.
  • Will be required to have good people skills as we deal with the public as well as other employees. Good communication skills are a must in writing, by telephone, e-mail or with people.
  • Employee may be directed to perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
