About the position

Millennium High School is looking for coaches for various track and field events including Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault, Horizontal Jumps, Throw, Sprint, and Distance. The coach will promote the educational philosophy and objectives of the District, providing leadership in developing and maintaining a successful program for student-athletes. The role involves instructing and preparing student-athletes for academic success and athletic competition.

Responsibilities

  • Follows district and site procedures and policies; adheres to the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).
  • Administers the freshman, JV, and/or varsity sports program for which the candidate has been hired.
  • Acts as a positive role model for student-athletes.
  • If a head coach, has full responsibility for the overall supervision and development of all teams in the sports program.
  • Responsible for the assignments and duties of assistant coaches in the sport.
  • Works closely with the Athletic Director in planning, implementing, and scheduling team activities.
  • Oversees unsafe conditions of the facility or area during practices and events.
  • Teaches student-athletes sound, safe fundamental techniques of the designated sport.
  • Fosters ethics, good conduct, and sportsmanship for all participants.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of the team during events and travel.
  • Manages the distribution, collection, and upkeep of uniforms and equipment.
  • Submits annual written report evaluating the program with recommendations for improvements.
  • Assists the Athletic Director in evaluating assistant, freshman, or JV coaches.
  • Verifies that each team member has been cleared by the Athletic Director before tryouts or practices.
  • Provides prompt reporting of scores to local media and AIA.
  • Holds pre-season parent orientation meetings to review eligibility and team rules.
  • Adheres to district guidelines regarding budget and expenditures.
  • Completes grade checks of all athletes per District guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with the Arizona Department of Education for all academic programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Open to qualified certificated on-site or school-site staff members.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of two (2) years head coaching at the high school level or head/assistant collegiate coaching level in the sport.
  • Participation as a player at the high school or collegiate level in the sport is preferred.
  • Must be trained in and possess valid CPR and First Aid clearance.
  • Must provide all required certifications prior to the beginning of the designated sports season.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Card.
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to work effectively with groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a verifiable record of placing emphasis on academic excellence and sportsmanship.
  • Ability to promote athletes who qualify under NCAA Clearinghouse standards.
