About the position

The Coach/Direct Support Professional at ICAN California Abilities Network provides essential support and care for clients with developmental and/or physical disabilities. This part-time role focuses on fostering client independence by teaching vocational, social, and life skills. The Coach is expected to be organized, flexible, and dependable, working closely with clients in both controlled environments and the community. The position requires attendance at weekly team meetings and curriculum writing sessions, ensuring a collaborative approach to client care and program development.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support and care for clients with developmental and/or physical disabilities.
• Teach daily activities such as vocational, social, and life skills to promote independent living.
• Maintain visual contact with clients at all times, except when using restroom facilities.
• Engage in interactive conversations with clients to encourage growth and goal development.
• Complete required client documentation, including case notes, before the end of each shift.
• Drive company vehicles to transport clients to club locations, ensuring safety and focus on the road.
• Participate in preparing and executing weekly schedules of activities and lesson plans.
• Provide positive role modeling to clients and maintain cooperative relationships with clients, guardians, and coworkers.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma from a recognized, accredited high school (No GED).
• Six months experience working with people with disabilities preferred but not required.
• Fluent in English with basic writing and grammar skills.
• Computer skills, including proficiency in Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, and other software.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
• CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to complete certification.
• CPI certification or willingness to complete prevention-first training at hire.
