About The Position

Aircraft Technology, Inc., (ATI), a subsidiary of HEICO Corporation, is an FAA/EASA Part 145 Repair Station. ATI supports a wide range of rotary and fixed wing components found on both commercial and military platforms around the world. The Lead CNC Programmer/Operator programs, sets-up and operates a production CNC machine. Performs a variety of tasks. Creates new and revises existing CNC programs using advanced software applications (GibbsCAM or similar). Programs mills, lathes, mill/turns, and possibly other NC equipment. Installs, runs, and troubleshoots programs at the machine during development. Assists with fixture design, tooling purchases, and overall machining support. This position will be integral to our continued growth and direction toward more advanced CNC machinery and applications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use basic shop math.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Responsibilities

  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
  • Lift workpieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
  • Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
  • Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Create CNC programs for new development projects, typically direct from a part drawing or CAD models.
  • Download newly created or revised programs on various machining centers such as 3-4 axis mills, turning centers, lathes, mill/turn, EDM, etc., and prove out the accuracy of the program.
  • Revise existing CNC programs to reduce machining time, extend tool life, and create overall process efficiency.
  • Assists with production problems, changes, designs, costs, and product usage.
  • Keeps the supervisor aware promptly of any issues needing the supervisor's involvement.
  • Observe good housekeeping and safety habits.
  • Provides training to lower-level associates.
  • Provides work leadership to lower-level associates.
  • Works with the Engineering, Quality, and Production Department with new capability.
  • Provides periodic reports to General Manager as requested (e.g. Tooling, equipment needs) for use in monitoring progress and efficiency.
  • Able to prioritize work activities to meet production schedules.
  • Conducts critical visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections.
  • Performs other duties, as required.
