About the position

Reporting to the Manager, with direction from the Registered Nurse, this position is responsible for providing high quality, individualized basic care activities as identified by the RN, using the components of the nursing process. The CNA demonstrates sound judgment in the implementation and basic nursing assistant aspects of the trans-disciplinary care plan. The CNA observes and reports patient issues/concerns/problems and on an ongoing basis will report findings to LVN or RN. The position requires the ability to provide care in emergency situations and follow established emergency procedures and practices, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Performing duties in a manner that provides for the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of the patient including performing basic patient care activities.
  • Incorporating cultural and ethnic factors into patient care activities.
  • Differentiating and reporting normal and abnormal findings with direction from the RN.
  • Contributing to the patient care process by assisting the patient in basic living activities such as bathing, oral care, positioning, line changes and ambulating.
  • Responding appropriately to concerns regarding patient safety based on the physical environment, equipment and the patient's behavior.
  • Communicating and following the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues.
  • Assuring that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy and dignity in the provision of care activities.
  • Reinforcing patient/family educational needs as identified by the RN.
  • Practicing Universal Precautions.
  • Completing departmental and hospital-wide in-services, competencies and Health Stream assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Attending staff meetings and actively participating.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/special applications.
  • Demonstrating the ability to access and use computer systems.
  • Communicating with physicians, administrative staff, co-workers, and patients/families in a respectful and caring manner.
  • Assuming other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • California CNA certification.
  • American Heart Association BLS card.
  • Los Angeles Fire Card (within 30 days of hire).
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) required within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School graduate or equivalent, preferred.
  • Completion of Nursing Assistant course, preferred.
  • Minimum six months recent experience in an acute care setting preferred.
