About the position

The position involves managing clothing design and development projects as a matrixed employee to the PEO Soldier, specifically under the Product Manager for Soldier Clothing and Equipment. The individual will act as a project officer and technical designer, focusing on the development, improvement, and maintenance of new and existing clothing items that support military Servicemembers. This role requires interfacing with textile suppliers and manufacturing facilities to optimize item design and manufacturability while adhering to military acquisition regulations and guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing timely project reporting, briefings, and communications in various formats, including PowerPoint presentations, posters, oral briefings, and written status reports as required by leadership. Additionally, the role includes drafting and maintaining item and project documentation, such as product descriptions, military specifications, technical packages, item change documents, and certifications. The position also entails managing technical and acquisition-related project and programmatic planning, guiding, conducting, and coordinating a wide range of activities involving production design, testing, validation, including limited user assessments, and development. Furthermore, the individual will support the development and integration of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system and contribute to the integration of new and existing products into this system.

Responsibilities

  • Manage clothing design and development projects as a matrixed employee to PEO Soldier.
  • Act as a project officer and technical designer for clothing items supporting military Servicemembers.
  • Interface with textile suppliers and manufacturing facilities to enhance item design and manufacturability.
  • Provide timely project reporting and briefings in various formats including PowerPoints and written status reports.
  • Draft and maintain item and project documentation such as product descriptions and military specifications.
  • Manage technical and acquisition-related project planning and coordination of production design and testing activities.
  • Support the development and integration of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must meet Foundational Career Level Certification in Engineering and Technical Management within 3 years.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11, DB-2 level in the Federal service.
  • Experience creating technical data packages and product description documentation.
  • Experience working directly with textile manufacturers and cut-and-sew facilities on clothing production.
  • Ability to read and understand Gerber CAD software design and pattern files.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Experience performing fit testing and evaluation on live models.
