About The Position

Our clinic is seeking a dedicated and professional Clinical Technician to support the delivery of high‑quality patient care within our ophthalmic/optometry practice. This role is well‑suited for individuals with strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to accuracy, and an interest in clinical work. We welcome applicants without prior ophthalmic experience and provide comprehensive training. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; medical or clinical experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Introduces new patients to office workflow and outlines what to expect
  • Describes the purpose and experience of each diagnostic test
  • Gathers comprehensive patient histories, including chief complaint, ocular and medical history, medications, allergies, and family history
  • Performs consistent, accurate documentation and testing
  • Assists the ophthalmic photographer with fundus, external, and anterior segment imaging
  • Determines appropriate testing order to maintain efficient flow
  • Escorts patients from the waiting area and initiates data collection
  • Informs patients about next steps and ensures comfort during transitions
  • Adjusts testing order as needed to support physician efficiency
  • Handles calls related to ocular emergencies, medication refills, and general care questions
  • Collaborates with reception staff to maintain smooth scheduling
  • Identifies and resolves minor equipment issues
  • Replaces bulbs, checks instrument connections, and ensures proper function
  • Conducts autoclaving and maintains instrument sterility
  • Reports ongoing equipment concerns to the Lead Ophthalmic Technician
  • Seeks direction from senior staff and avoids working beyond skill level
  • Calls patients to confirm appointments two business days prior
  • Maintains clean, orderly exam and procedure rooms
  • Ensures adequate stock levels in clinical rooms
  • Completes other tasks as assigned
