About the position

The Clinical Support Specialist at DESC plays a crucial role in providing and coordinating clinical services for tenants, particularly those with complex needs related to homelessness, substance use disorders, and serious mental illness. This position involves case management, mental health services, and collaboration with an integrated care team to ensure tenants achieve their housing goals and maintain a safe living environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate engagement of tenants through creative and culturally relevant strategies.
  • Develop and update an Integrated Service Plan (ISP) in collaboration with tenants and staff.
  • Identify and coordinate case management elements provided by DESC and outside organizations.
  • Support tenants in maintaining safe and healthy living conditions, including hands-on assistance.
  • Provide case management services not covered by other providers.
  • Maintain regular contact with tenants and case managers to monitor progress toward goals.
  • Document interactions with tenants in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Use trauma-informed strategies to intervene in crises and assist with rule enforcement.
  • Provide education and support for tenants to ensure success as leaseholders.
  • Assist tenants in forming interest groups or therapeutic support groups.
  • Organize outings and activities to improve tenant skills and increase meaningful activity.
  • Work with staff and community resources to facilitate additional services and activities.
  • Provide individual counseling and information referral services to tenants as needed.
  • Facilitate community meetings and participate in staff meetings and trainings.

Requirements

  • Current Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) license in Washington State or ability to obtain it soon after hire.
  • Clinical experience working with homeless adults disabled by chronic alcoholism, mental illness, and drug use.
  • Knowledge of local homeless, mental health, and chemical dependency service systems.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of unpleasant and/or bizarre behavior.
  • Commitment to cooperation and continuity across agency programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years' experience working with homeless adults disabled by chronic alcoholism, mental illness, and/or drug use.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and insurable driving record.
