About the position

The Medical Surgical Clinical Supervisor at Licking Memorial Health Systems is responsible for overseeing nursing and unit-based personnel during the designated shift to ensure a safe environment for optimal patient care. This role involves ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, mentoring staff, managing performance, and facilitating conflict resolution. The Supervisor will also provide direct patient care as needed, demonstrating clinical competence and effective communication with patients and healthcare team members.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all nursing and unit-based personnel on the designated shift.
  • Ensure quality and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies.
  • Address quality care issues and assist with mentoring employees.
  • Participate in ongoing employee performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Provide direct patient care as necessary to meet patient and customer needs.
  • Recognize and respond to critical situations, including performing crisis intervention.
  • Monitor and ensure the accurate completion of physician orders.
  • Assess and supervise care provided by unlicensed staff.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately within RN practice scope.
  • Assist physicians with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
  • Maintain patient safety and follow fall risk protocols.
  • Assist with staffing and bed assignments in coordination with management.
  • Act as a mentor and resource for employees.
  • Handle patient and visitor complaints and concerns.
  • Investigate occurrences and report findings to management.
  • Coordinate patient throughput and make staff assignments as necessary.
  • Lead emergency codes and communicate with preceptors regarding orientee performance.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Current R.N. licensure for Ohio.
  • Maintain valid Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
  • Previous experience in a supervisor or charge nurse role.
  • Competency in ECG rhythm recognition.
  • Ability to formulate nursing care plans.
  • Document and communicate pertinent patient information.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with healthcare team members.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet departmental needs.
