The Clinical Staff Pharmacist position at McLeod Health involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the safe and effective use of medications within the healthcare setting. The pharmacist will be responsible for accurately interpreting and entering medication orders, dispensing medications promptly, and serving as a drug information resource for the healthcare team. Additionally, the pharmacist will promote the safe use of automated medication dispensing systems and ensure compliance with hospital and pharmacy policies, as well as state and federal laws regarding medication dispensing. The position also involves supervising pharmacy technicians and assisting in the training of pharmacy residents and students.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Exhibits and conveys the message of the Service Excellence Standards and Core Values in every interaction.
  • Accurately interprets and enters medication orders in the computer for drug administration.
  • Ensures that medications are dispensed and delivered promptly.
  • Correctly checks medications including IVs, carts, and kits before dispensing from the pharmacy.
  • Serves as a drug information resource for members of the health care team.
  • Promotes safe and effective use of all automated medication dispensing and packaging systems.
  • Follows hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures, including medication-related policies.
  • Contacts the provider in a timely manner regarding concerns about medication orders.
  • Ensures proper charging and crediting of medications.
  • Follows state and federal laws regarding dispensing of medications.
  • Knows and follows regulatory standards and policies related to governing bodies.
  • Works as a team with a positive attitude when interacting with other department employees.
  • Exhibits clinical and professional skills to positively interact with healthcare practitioners.
  • Provides supervision and direction to pharmacy technicians.
  • Assists in the training and education of pharmacy residents, students, and technicians.
  • Handles and resolves customer issues, complaints, and questions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the state of South Carolina.
  • Ability to work independently.
