About the position

The Clinical Respiratory Care Lead provides lead supervision to the staff to assure quality patient care. This role facilitates effective open two-way communication and resolution of work site operational issues that support service line/service goals, objectives, benchmarks, and targets. The Lead performs duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist as needed to provide professional and quality care to patients of all ages. Additionally, the Lead assists with the development and coordination of strategically aligned processes related to patient care and assumes responsibilities delegated by the manager.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and oversees daily activities of a department, work unit, team or process.
  • Serves as a role model, developmental coach and mentor for staff.
  • Assumes accountability and oversees the development of staff work schedule and makes appropriate resource allocation decisions.
  • Monitors performance improvement activities and/or collects PI data as directed by management.
  • Participates in employee annual performance and peer review process.
  • Actively participates with strategically aligned projects related to the improvement of Carilion Clinic's Respiratory Care Services.
  • Identifies, develops, coordinates and implements pathways, protocols, and guidelines within assigned areas.
  • Performs duties of a registered Respiratory Therapist and applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients.
  • Functions as a clinical resource and role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and graduate of a COARC approved advanced practitioner Respiratory Care program.
  • Minimum three years post-graduate clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Virginia State Board of Medicine.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Effective interpersonal communication (written and verbal), organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to function independently and utilize various computer programs (i.e. Excel, Word, and Access).
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation yearly for position.
  • Be able to acquire BLS within 3 months of employment.
  • Some areas may require ACLS, NRP, PALS certification within one year of employment.
  • Active membership in professional organization (AARC) preferred.
