About the position

The Clinical Research Nurse I-Oncology at NYU Langone Health plays a crucial role in supporting patients enrolled in oncology clinical trials. This position involves advocating for patient interests while ensuring compliance with clinical research protocols and regulations. The nurse will work independently under supervision, coordinating patient care and facilitating positive outcomes in clinical research settings.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with healthcare colleagues and physicians to utilize the Ambulatory Care Practice Model.
  • Conducts thorough research screening visits for potential trial participants per protocol requirements.
  • Collaborates with investigators to recruit, enroll, and retain patients on clinical trials while ensuring patient safety.
  • Prepares for and oversees the safe conduct of study treatment visits per protocol.
  • Provides patients with thorough explanations of trials and obtains informed consent.
  • Responsible for good quality source documentation related to research visits and adverse events.
  • Supports and documents the informed consent process with non-English speaking individuals.
  • Participates in feasibility meetings and communicates potential barriers to management.
  • Creates, reviews, and approves protocol tracking forms prior to study activation.
  • Conducts outpatient and inpatient infusion nursing in services for approved protocols.
  • Responds promptly to clinical patient inquiries and concerns.
  • Maintains fluency in disease-specific terminology and standard of care treatment modalities.
  • Educates patients on the disease process, treatment, and potential side effects.
  • Ensures treatment plans are correctly built into the Beacon Build Template.
  • Oversees clinical coordination of patient schedules to adhere to protocol criteria.
  • Completes documentation related to Serious Adverse Events in required timeframes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing
  • New York RN Licensure
  • BLS certification
  • Minimum of 1 year nursing experience in oncology research nursing or oncology nursing
  • Computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheet, and database management skills
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and deadlines
  • Adaptability and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to team problem-solving approach
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Organizational skills to function independently and as a team member
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people

Nice-to-haves

  • OCN certification
  • CCRP, CCRC, and/or CRN BC certifications
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record
