The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at CHEO is a Registered Nurse with advanced education (Masters or Doctoral prepared), skills, and experience to provide personalized and quality care. NPs are regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and hold a license as RN (Extended Class), with an independent scope of practice. Their scope includes diagnosis, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and performing medical procedures. NPs function as both autonomous and collaborating health care providers, integrating knowledge from nursing and medicine. In addition to the clinical role, the NP embodies leadership, education, research, and ongoing professional development.
