About the position

As part of the Surgical team at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you'll give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, and in support of the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Clinical Nurse I means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us. Inside Hoag's Surgical Department, our Surgical floor features 33 beds, with three levels of care and a nurse to patient ratio dependent on each level, ranging from 1:3 to 1:5. You'll be serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac medical and/or cardiac surgical diagnoses, including: colon surgery, thoracotomies, endarterectomies, jaw surgery and various other surgical patients. This will also include Telemetry admits along with overflow patients from other medical/surgical units.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct inpatient nursing care according to the California Nurse Practice Act.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Initiate IV therapy and demonstrate skill in the use of medical equipment and devices.
  • Respond to emergency situations and follow safety protocols.
  • Assess patients' educational needs and provide appropriate teaching.
  • Monitor and assess patients' nutritional status and communicate needs to physicians.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes and maintain knowledge of departmental standards.

Requirements

  • Active California RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Completion of an EKG course or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of recent acute hospital experience.
  • Successful completion of Critical Care Course prior to assuming care of patients in critical care areas.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or commitment to obtain within specified timeframe.
