About the position

As part of the Sub Intensive Care Unit (SUB ICU) at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you will give direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act, and in support of the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Clinical Nurse I means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes, and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us. Our Sub ICU features 27 beds and a nurse to patient ratio of 1:3. As a designated medical step-down unit, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate, quality care to adult and geriatric patients requiring various interventions. Hoag nurses consistently maintain a high standard of professional communication, appearance and conduct. They're driven to excel in patient treatment and nursing, and they're deeply passionate about their work. To that end, we'll expect you to participate in our continuous quality improvement process and maintain a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct inpatient nursing care as per the California Nurse Practice Act.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, timely, and appropriate quality care to adult and geriatric patients.
  • Monitor patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring, vassopressor therapy, mechanical ventilation, sedation, or induced hypothermia.
  • Care for patients experiencing complex cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory distress, or chest pain.
  • Assist in cardiovascular bypass procedures, including interventional procedures such as PTCA and stent placement.
  • Manage patients with central venous catheters, chest tubes, and temporary or permanent pacemakers.

Requirements

  • Active California RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in an acute care facility.
  • Successful completion of a Critical Care course.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). If not obtained upon hire, must begin a BSN program within one year and obtain it within two years.

  • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
  • Critical Care nursing experience.
  • Additional skills and knowledge of various equipment and software.
