About the position

At the direction of the Director, supports the development of clinical skills in the staff, whether a novice or expert in their field. Maintains clinical skills that facilitate ongoing education and just-in-time training for clinical and technical staff. Collaborates with the Director to assure that organizational priorities are incorporated into educational planning.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates effectively with the surgical services' leadership team to identify educational needs.
  • Plans and coordinates programs (in collaboration with the clinical experts) that will meet the identified needs.
  • Provides an appropriate climate for learning that facilitates the development of clinical competence in the clinical and technical staff.
  • Develops and maintains, in collaboration with supervisors, an orientation program for newly hired clinical, technical and admin support staff for surgical services.
  • Develops and maintains, in collaboration with supervisors, a competency program for clinical, technical and admin support staff for surgical services.
  • Tracks ongoing competency compliance and reports exceptions to surgical services' leaders quarterly.
  • Collaborates with content experts and leadership team to update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Identifies learning needs, develops and updates plans and processes, in collaboration with informatics team and supervisors, to support staff proficiency.
  • Facilitates and monitors the completion of annual and mandatory requirements.
  • Facilitates and maintains an individualized educational plan with staff.
  • Assists the staff to identify their needs, while fostering an environment that encourages lifelong learning.
  • Maintains a consistent and frequent presence in the clinical areas in order to identify educational and/or training needs.
  • Maintains clinical skills in order to work at the bedside in learning situations, role model responses to clinical challenges, and provide 'just in time' learning when observing a need.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively with other departments to facilitate the work required to support staff.
  • Supports and engages staff in departmental and organizational quality initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current NH RN license.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • BSN required or enrolled in BSN program with expected completion within 2 years.
  • Master's degree preferred.
