About The Position

CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Director for a contract position at a federal law enforcement laboratory facility in Quantico, Virginia. This leadership role oversees all clinical laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with CLIA, CAP, and federal regulatory standards while directing a team of laboratory professionals in the delivery of diagnostic testing services. The Clinical Laboratory Director provides executive-level oversight of clinical pathology laboratory operations within a federal law enforcement environment. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining quality assurance programs, directing technical staff, validating test methodologies, and ensuring laboratory compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements. The Director serves as the laboratory's highest-level scientific and administrative authority.

Requirements

MD, DO, or PhD in Clinical Laboratory Science, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, or related discipline from an accredited institution
Board Certification in Clinical Pathology (CP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology, OR Doctoral-level certification by ASCP (such as HCLD, CC, or SC)
Qualification as Laboratory Director under CLIA 42 CFR 493.1443
Minimum 5 years of clinical laboratory management experience, including at least 3 years in a director-level role
Active, unrestricted medical license (if MD/DO) or relevant state licensure
Demonstrated experience with CAP accreditation processes and CLIA compliance
U.S. citizenship required (federal law enforcement facility with security clearance requirements)
Ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance

Nice To Haves

Fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry, Hematopathology, or Forensic Pathology
Experience in a federal laboratory environment (military, law enforcement, or government agency)
Experience with forensic toxicology and drug testing programs including SAMHSA/DOT compliance
Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and electronic quality management systems
Track record of peer-reviewed publications or presentations in clinical laboratory science
Experience with ISO 15189 accreditation standards

Responsibilities

Direct and manage all clinical laboratory operations including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, and toxicology departments
Ensure laboratory compliance with CLIA 88 regulations, CAP accreditation standards, and federal quality management requirements
Develop, validate, and implement new test methodologies and laboratory procedures
Oversee quality assurance and quality control programs, including proficiency testing, competency assessments, and corrective action processes
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate laboratory technical staff including medical technologists, technicians, and support personnel
Review and authorize laboratory policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures
Serve as the designated laboratory director for CLIA certification and CAP accreditation purposes
Collaborate with pathologists, forensic scientists, and clinical staff on complex diagnostic cases
Manage laboratory budget, procurement of reagents and equipment, and capital planning
Participate in research initiatives and method development for emerging diagnostic technologies
