About the position

The Clinical Educator (RN) position at La Rabida Children's Hospital focuses on enhancing the quality of pediatric nursing care through education and collaboration. The role involves working closely with nursing staff to assess their clinical needs, provide training, and ensure effective communication within the healthcare team. The Clinical Educator serves as a mentor and role model, promoting best practices in pediatric nursing and contributing to the overall mission of improving patient care for children with complex conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a teacher and role model for nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent clinical skills in nursing practices.
  • Participate in learning activities as a preceptor for orientees based on their needs.
  • Assess the clinical needs of all nursing staff.
  • Teach and monitor the effectiveness of educational programs in collaboration with management.
  • Accept patient assignments with an identified staff member as a preceptor.
  • Provide feedback on staff's clinical needs to management.
  • Maintain clinical expertise by reviewing and disseminating current information on pediatric nursing trends.
  • Collaborate with the Educational Department to ensure appropriate teaching materials are available.
  • Conduct preceptor training and mentoring sessions for staff.
  • Participate in data collection for quality management related to patient care.
  • Collaborate with Patient Managers and other departments to ensure quality patient care delivery.
  • Interpret hospital and patient care policies efficiently to staff.
  • Accept membership on committees as a representative for clinical inpatient staff.
  • Actively participate in Nursing Management and Nursing Council meetings.
  • Maintain required job skills and professional competencies.
  • Attend required educational sessions and a minimum of six non-required education sessions per year.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing is required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Three years of experience in pediatrics is required.
  • Clinical Educator experience preferred.
  • Currently licensed as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in pediatric nursing.
  • Ability to function as an exceptional role model to staff.
  • Familiarity with policies of regulatory agencies: JCAHO, IDPH, Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and OSHA.
  • Ability to establish priorities and possess independent decision-making capabilities.
  • CPR certification required from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
