About the position

The Herron School of Art and Design at IU Indianapolis invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in Art Therapy to begin in August 2025. The position will reside in the Art Therapy program, which offers a Master of Arts degree. This position provides the opportunity and resources to help expand upon and further develop a creative and innovative art therapy program with unique access to clinical, research and community partners, enhancing student and faculty experiences. Rank and salary are commensurate with professional experience, teaching, and current professional status.

Responsibilities

  • Active participation in a cohesive faculty team with varied interests and experiences within the Art Therapy Program.
  • Teaching, student recruitment and advising, and curriculum development.
  • Contributing to the School and University through service.
  • Ongoing engagement in scholarly, creative, and professional activities.
  • Management of the clinical internships including administrative duties related to the development and maintenance of the internships.
  • Active involvement in coordinating placement throughout the summer.
  • On-site clinical supervision of graduate art therapy students.
  • Contributing to the school by bringing a diverse perspective and unique set of experiences.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in art therapy or a doctoral degree in art therapy or closely related field.
  • ATR-BC credentials required within 6 months of being hired; Indiana state license eligible.
  • Human service experience as an art therapist.
  • Demonstrated scholarly, studio, and professional engagement.
  • Prior teaching, supervising and advising students.
  • Ongoing scholarly/creative work, community collaborations, and service to the university and/or professional organizations.
  • Solid grounding in direct art therapy practice.
