About The Position

This position involves assisting in clinic specialty areas, particularly in surgical placement of dental implants, and also serves as a receptionist for the Graduate Periodontics Clinic. Duties include setting up and breaking down dental operatories, taking and processing x-rays, maintaining and sterilizing instruments, patient instruction, managing supply inventories, and scheduling appointments for residents, fellows, and dental hygienists. The role also requires assisting the Graduate Program Director and dental assistants, inputting consults, scanning correspondence, and providing backup for fiscal duties related to patient payments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Nice To Haves

  • Dental receptionist experience
  • Extensive knowledge and a minimum of 5 years’ experience of assisting in the surgical placement of dental implants, including in-depth knowledge of multiple implant systems, their maintenance and ordering needs.
  • Minimum of 5 years in assisting in intravenous sedation including demonstrated experience in phlebotomy.
  • Certified Dental Assistant
  • Certified Dental Radiographer
  • Working personal computer knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, instruments, materials and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides "four-handed" dental assisting in non-surgical and surgical care, with an emphasis on surgical placement of dental implants.
  • Sets up and breaks down dental operatories.
  • Takes and processes dental x-rays.
  • Maintains and sterilizes dental instruments.
  • Instructs patients in oral hygiene and post-operative care.
  • Maintains dental instrumentation and orders/surveys supply inventories for periodontal regeneration and implant placement.
  • Assists with other duties to maintain efficient patient care flow.
  • Serves as receptionist for the Graduate Periodontics Clinic, responding to inquiries and managing messages.
  • Returns voice mail messages and phone calls promptly.
  • Schedules appointments for 11 residents, two fellows, and one dental hygienist.
  • Reschedules patient appointments as necessary.
  • Confirms patient appointments for the RDH and residents.
  • Checks reports for cancellations or unanswered calls and attempts to reschedule.
  • Fills gaps in schedules due to cancellations.
  • Schedules all IV sedations and coordinates with other schedules.
  • Schedules all outside referrals and referrals from the electronic chart system.
  • Schedules dental and medical radiographic (CTs) appointments and coordinates with other appointments.
  • Schedules surgeries in operating rooms of local area hospitals.
  • Assists faculty, residents, and student dentists chairside during patient care.
  • Assists the Graduate Program Director, RDH, and dental assistants with routine requests.
  • Inputs DMD implant consults in Axium.
  • Scans all correspondence and referrals into patient’s electronic chart.
  • Provides back up to Senior Fiscal Assistant with reviewing patient payment history and current balances.
