About the position

The Client Service Specialist - Hospital Liaison role involves providing direct and indirect mental health services to consumers with severe and persistent mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders. This position serves as a liaison between Adult Mental Health Services and various state and local institutions, ensuring effective communication and support for consumers. The specialist is responsible for extensive case documentation and connecting consumers to appropriate services, all while adhering to the mission and policies of CMHA-CEI.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the liaison between Adult Mental Health Services and State and Local hospitals, State and Federal prisons, and the Center for Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Perform a wide range of direct and indirect mental health services to consumers with severe and persistent mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders.
  • Conduct assessments of challenging behaviors and emotional trauma by interviewing and observing consumers and reviewing appropriate records.
  • Connect consumers to appropriate outpatient services and residential care.
  • Carry out all activities of the program/sub-unit in accordance with CMHA-CEI's mission, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain extensive case documentation.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience working with persons with mental illness is required.
  • Ability to operate a computer and gain proficiency in CMHA-CEI's computer systems, including SmartCare, MIS LIVE, and Microsoft Word.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and access to reliable transportation for job-related use is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of paraprofessional experience working with persons with mental illness may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
