About the position

The Clerical Associate - Level IV position at NYC Health + Hospitals is primarily focused on assisting patients and families in navigating insurance coverage for outpatient services. This role is integral to the Revenue Cycle process, ensuring that uninsured or underinsured patients receive the necessary support to obtain coverage. The position involves direct interaction with patients, documentation management, and coordination with insurance providers to secure authorizations and verify benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Screen uninsured or underinsured outpatients to identify insurance coverage or enrollment eligibility.
  • Assist outpatients that do not qualify for enrollment with charity care programs.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete and submitted for program applications.
  • Scan patient ID, insurance card(s), referral forms, and consent forms into the document imaging system.
  • Follow up on the status of applications until a coverage determination is made.
  • Complete notification, verification, and authorization for scheduled and non-scheduled visits, as assigned.
  • Contact insurance payers to secure authorizations for required services, and verify coverage and benefits.
  • Document patient information clearly and completely in the Health Information System (HIS).
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Patient Access Manager.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Six months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior EPIC H2O Registration, Billing and Collections and/or Financial Counseling experience.
  • Valid Certified Application Counselor Certification (CAC) preferred.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills required, including communication and problem-solving.
