About the position

The Cleared Senior/Principal Nuclear Engineering position at Sandia National Laboratories focuses on nonproliferation and export control within a technical science and engineering environment. The role involves managing research and development projects, providing decision insights, and conducting analyses related to nuclear security and international relations. The selected candidate will work collaboratively on interdisciplinary projects, utilizing scientific methods to address complex nonproliferation challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, conceive, conduct, and manage research and development projects on nonproliferation and counterproliferation topics.
  • Provide decision insight to customers in complex domains to advance nonproliferation mission space.
  • Conduct systematic analysis of international affairs, foreign relations, and scientific and engineering principles for nuclear security.
  • Create new capabilities and approaches to nonproliferation problems.
  • Demonstrate experience on sanctions enforcement and UN Security Council Resolutions.
  • Work with international multilateral organizations, preparing position papers and securing project funding.
  • Attend and present at international conferences and meetings.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or relevant field, plus one or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in nonproliferation, regional security, export control, and threat analysis.
  • Experience in designing, planning, and executing research and development projects.
  • Background in securing external funding through proposal development.
  • Active DOE Q-level or DOD Top Secret Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience working in a teamed environment, as a contributor and leader.
  • Previous experience with export licensing and regulatory environments for dual-use goods.
  • Experience with NNSA nonproliferation and technical cooperation programs.
  • Ability to implement ideas into existing projects and provide creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in an ambiguous environment.
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
