About The Position

We are currently seeking a lawyer to join the LAWPRO claims team in the role of Claims Counsel. Claims Counsel manage a diverse portfolio of files relating to claims against Ontario lawyers. LAWPRO lawyers assist Insureds directly or retain and instruct external legal counsel or other professionals to assess, strategize, repair, defend or resolve error or omissions proceedings. Our claims team handles files in all practice areas. At this time, we are seeking lawyers with a litigation background. Experience in real estate and / or wills and estates is particularly sought, but all litigation backgrounds will be considered. Our claims team includes lawyers with varying years of practice and we will consider applicants with 5 years of experience through to senior lawyers.

Requirements

At least five years’ experience (additional experience is considered an asset).
Experience in any one or more of the following: civil litigation, real estate, wills & estates, corporate/commercial, tax or insurance coverage.
Licensed and in good standing as a lawyer in Ontario.

Nice To Haves

Experience in real estate and / or wills and estates is particularly sought, but all litigation backgrounds will be considered.
Additional experience beyond five years.

Responsibilities

Manage a diverse portfolio of files relating to claims against Ontario lawyers.
Assist Insureds directly or retain and instruct external legal counsel or other professionals to assess, strategize, repair, defend or resolve error or omissions proceedings.
Identify and implement file strategy in conjunction with external counsel and the insured, and revise strategy where necessary to achieve the desired outcome.
Take a proactive and creative approach to claims handling.
Develop expertise in one or more areas of law.
Prioritize work efficiently and meet applicable deadlines.
Make effective use of technology.
