About The Position

S&B is actively searching for an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to join our team in Baton Rouge, LA. The Civil/Structural Engineer independently performs assignments requiring the application of standard design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. The incumbent must be capable of exercising independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • Normally requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
  • Usually referred to as a lead position.
  • Incumbent must be cognizant of the capabilities and limitations of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment to effectively direct their use for diverse engineering assignments.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development of project design concepts and criteria.
  • Analyzes complex design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
  • Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability.
  • Monitors project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget.
  • Represents respective projects at meetings and conferences.
  • May plan, organize, and supervise design engineering activities for a project of significant size and complexly or two or more projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Provides conceptual design input for preliminary project estimates.
  • Responsible for technical direction over a group of engineers or specialists.
